Minimum Requirements At least 18 years of age Posses a high school diploma or equivalent Complete a thorough background investigation Pass a drug screening and hearing test Work a variety of shifts, days, hours, weekends and holidays Complete the minimum set standard of on the job training Essential Functions Answer incoming 9-1-1 and administrative calls quickly and professionally Ability to process and determine appropriate response for emergency and non-emergency calls Ability to multi-task in a high stress, high call volume Understanding of computer aided dispatch (CAD) systems, various mapping programs, state and federal computer systems and radio equipment Handle high stress situations in a calm, professional manner Occasionally deal with hysterical and uncooperative callers Frequently Asked Questions What happens after I apply? o Your application will be reviewed followed by a background check.  A testing date will be established and those applicants who pass the test may be scheduled for an oral interview.   What’s the starting pay?$28,500 annually with opportunities for overtime.  What are the hours? o Twelve hour shifts.  7a - 7p & 7p - 7a What are the benefits? o Employee’s receive health, life, dental and vision at no cost.   Twenty-five percent of the same coverage is available for  dependent coverage and is paid by the organization. o Employee’s are enrolled in LAGERS, non- contributory at L-6. Vacation, Days off, etc.? o Employees accrue “X” amount of hours per pay period based upon  years of service to use as paid time off (PTO).  This time may be  used for sick, vacation, personal, etc. What is the pay cycle? o Bi-weekly direct deposited. We encourage all applicants to observe the communications  center for a couple of hours to allow them to see what it is  like as a Telecommunicator.
